Who We Are

Lions Club International is the world's largest membership-based service organization, with over 1.4 million members in more than 200 geographic areas. Founded in 1917, the organization is dedicated to serving communities locally and globally through service projects, focusing on areas like fighting blindness, alleviating hunger, and helping youth. The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) provides grant funding for these humanitarian projects.

Lions District 24L is a vibrant and service-driven district within Lions Clubs International, encompassing the geographic region of Northern and Central Virginia, including the cities, towns, and communities stretching from the Potomac River and Northern Virginia suburbs down through Fredericksburg, Stafford, the Piedmont region, and portions of the Virginia heartland. This diverse district reflects both the historic character and rapid growth of the region it serves.

District 24L is home to 78 Lions, Lioness-Lions, and Leo Clubs, representing more than 2,200 members who are united by the mission “We Serve.” These dedicated volunteers work year-round to meet community needs through impactful humanitarian service, strong partnerships, and an inclusive, family-oriented culture.

Clubs across District 24L actively engage in all eight Lions International global causes—
Vision, Hunger, Diabetes, Environment, Childhood Cancer, Humanitarian Efforts, Youth, and Disaster Relief—while also responding to local priorities such as mental health support, civic engagement, leadership development, and community resilience.

With a commitment to service excellence, innovation, and fellowship, Lions District 24L continues to strengthen communities, support those in need, and develop the next generation of leaders across Northern and Central Virginia.

What We Do

Lions Clubs are the heartbeat of service in their communities—local volunteers working together to create measurable, meaningful, and lasting change. Guided by the worldwide mission of “We Serve,” Lions unite compassion with action to address both immediate needs and long-term challenges. Their work is powerful because it is grounded in the everyday realities of the people they serve, yet connected to a global network of humanitarian impact.

Across the world and here at home, Lions Clubs bring the eight Lions International Global Causes to life:

1. Vision

Lions safeguard sight through eye screenings, glasses drives, support for vision clinics, and assistance for individuals with visual impairments—ensuring that everyone has the ability to learn, work, and thrive.

2. Hunger

Through food drives, meal distribution programs, community gardens, and partnerships with local pantries, Lions fight food insecurity and ensure families have access to nutritious meals.

3. Diabetes

Lions improve health outcomes by promoting diabetes awareness, offering screenings, supporting healthy lifestyle programs, and creating opportunities for prevention and early detection.

4. Environment

Lions protect natural spaces and strengthen sustainability through community cleanups, recycling initiatives, pollinator and tree-planting projects, and environmental education.

5. Childhood Cancer

Lions support children undergoing cancer treatment and their families by providing care kits, meal and lodging assistance, fundraising for research, and creating uplifting experiences that bring hope and comfort.

6. Youth

Lions invest in the success of young people through scholarships, leadership training, mentorship, Leo Clubs, literacy programs, and safe, positive spaces for youth development.

7. Disaster Relief

When crisis strikes, Lions are among the first to respond—mobilizing volunteers, delivering supplies, supporting shelters, assisting with recovery efforts, and helping rebuild communities with compassion and resilience.

8. Humanitarian Efforts

From aiding seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities to supporting mental health, community wellness, and everyday human needs, Lions step in where help is needed most.

A Global Mission, Delivered Locally

What makes Lions Clubs unique is their dual identity:
local volunteers who understand their community deeply, and global partners connected to one of the world’s largest service networks.

Whether addressing hunger in a neighborhood, planting trees in a park, helping a child see clearly for the first time, or responding to a family’s crisis, Lions serve with heart, purpose, and impact.

Where there’s a need,
there’s a Lion.
