Help Us Celebrate Disability Awareness Month

During Disability Awareness Month, Pleasant View organizes a series of commemorative activities, including an annual rally. Students can support the planning and implementation of these events by assisting with various programmatic and logistical components.

Our Mission and Vision

Pleasant View's mission is to help individuals with disabilities in living out their goals for meaningful work, relationship, and spiritual development. Our vision is that all people will have the opportunity to live in and enrich their communities. You can make a difference! If you want to spend time with the individuals we support while volunteering, you will need to bring us evidence of a negative TB test taken within the last 6 months per our licensing requirements.  You will be trained in HIPAA Compliance and Individuals Rights.

We need you to help us tell our story. 

As a nonprofit, it is important for us to educate the community about who we serve, what we are doing, and any needs the community can meet in support of our mission.  Volunteers are needed to help us capture stories that are of interest to the community (outside of Pleasant View).  We need help updating how we communicate with people who know Pleasant View and reach new people.

This is something new.  If you want to spend time with the individuals we support while volunteering, you will need to bring us evidence of a negative TB test taken within the last 6 months per our licensing requirements.  You will be trained in HIPAA Compliance and Individuals Rights.

You can still volunteer with individuals with disabilities in addition to at another time too.  One week could be in person and the next week could be virtual.  We can play it by ear as we start.  As interested parties apply, they can be added to the group.

Plan & Execute Simple Activities or Games as an Individual Volunteer or Small Group at Day Program. 
 
Pleasant View supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It can be difficult to meet people and start natural relationships in the community. We need your help to provide opportunities for the individuals we support to make connections and build friendly, meaningful relationships with people in the community.

You can volunteer as an individual or with a small group to plan and implement a fun activity such as:

Play & Lead a Music Activity for a Small Group Pleasant View supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Many of the individuals we support enjoy music of all kinds.  Many who participate in our day program like listening to live music and participating in group music activities. 

We have a piano, electric keyboard, bells for adaptive bell choir, karaoke music, microphone, speakers, sound system, and assorted small instruments you can incorporate into your music time. 

In the past, we have had several musicians who enjoyed visiting weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly to lead music in our day program.  The music activity can also just be a single opportunity.  You can come as an individual or a small group.  With a small group of volunteers, some volunteers can help individuals with disabilities who want to participate in the activity but need help.

Pleasant View is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join us as Support Services Volunteers. In this role, you will provide essential support to our Support Services team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities: Assist Support Services with organizing and filing important documents.  Help individuals with disabilities complete surveys by asking questions and recording responses. Socialize with individuals supported by Pleasant View to build connections and foster a welcoming atmosphere.

Ideal Qualities: Friendly and approachable with excellent communication skills. Organized and detail-oriented. Comfortable interacting with individuals with diverse abilities. Able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate respect for all individuals.

Time Commitment: This is a flexible volunteer position with opportunities to serve on a schedule that works for you.  Once you create your schedule, it is expected that you notify supervisor in advance if you are not able to volunteer on a scheduled day.

By volunteering as a Support Services Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in creating a positive environment and supporting the work that makes Pleasant View special.
