Opportunities From: James Madison University Community Engagement & Volunteer Center

Volunteer: Become a Mentor at Skyline Middle School

All volunteers are encouraged to participate in mentoring our middle school students, providing an excellent opportunity to engage with students during lunchtime. Once a relationship is established, the option to continue mentoring after school is available.

Mentoring times are as follows:

- 6th grade: 10:58-11:20 am

- 7th grade: 10:30-10:53 am

- 8th grade: 11:35-11:57 am

In addition, step practice for middle school students is scheduled from 2:05 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., while elementary students have their practice from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Furthermore, a high school step team is being established, and their practice will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All practices take place at Skyline Middle School in the Aux gym.

Tutoring sessions can be arranged during classroom hours or lunchtime. School hours are from 7:40 a.m. to 2:05 p.m.

All volunteers must undergo a background check as part of our updated procedures. To initiate this process, please follow the steps outlined below:

1. Contact Elizabeth Jerlinski at (540) 434-9916 to schedule an appointment.

2. On the day of your appointment, please ensure you have your driver's license and social security numbers available.

3. Please bring a $10.00 money order made payable to the VA Department of Social Services. Please let us know if payment is an issue; we will assist.

4. Present documentation of a negative TB screening or test completed within the past 12 months.
