Move-In Weekend is one of the most exciting and meaningful traditions at James Madison University as we welcome incoming students and their families to campus. We are seeking faculty and staff volunteers to serve as Move-In Registration Volunteers during Move-In Weekend, August 21–23, 2026.
Move-In Registration Volunteers play an important role in helping coordinate volunteer teams and ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for students and families.
Responsibilities
• Welcome and check in volunteer organizations as they arrive for their assigned shifts
• Assist with volunteer registration and attendance tracking
• Maintain communication with the Move-In leadership team to troubleshoot questions or concerns as needed
• Help direct volunteers to the appropriate locations and support smooth shift transitions
• Support a positive and welcoming atmosphere for students, families, and volunteers
Shift Locations and Times
The locations cover: Bluestone Area, Hillside Area, Skyline Area, Village Area, Lake Area, Treehouses.
Volunteers may sign up for one or both daily shifts:
• Morning Shift Check-In: 7:30 - 9:00 AM
• Afternoon Shift Check-In: 11:45 AM - 1:15 PM
The locations cover: Bluestone Area, Hillside Area, Skyline Area, Village Area, Lake Area, Treehouses.
Please note that Move-In Registration Volunteers will not be responsible for lifting or moving luggage or personal belongings.
Training & Support
No prior Move-In experience is required. All volunteers will participate in a briefing/training meeting prior to Move-In Weekend to review expectations, communication processes, and logistics.
