Who We Are

JMU TRIO Programs include two programs:

1. The Upward Bound program serves 60 students at Harrisonburg High School and Spotswood High School and is sponsored by a grant through the U.S. Department of Education. The focus of this program is to identify and select eligible students who meet income guidelines and/or are potential first-generation college students. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

2. Talent Search is a federally funded program providing opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Talent Search serves middle school and high school students from low-income families and students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. Talent Search currently serves four local schools: Thomas Harrison Middle School, Skyline Middle School, Harrisonburg High School, and Spotswood High School.
