Who We Are

Run Harrisonburg is a chapter of Run Your City (RYC), a nonprofit organization committed to building an inclusive community through the sport of running. RYC aims to provide every child, regardless of ability, gender, or socioeconomic background, the opportunity to grow into healthy, confident, and inspired individuals. Our program is designed to be accessible and FREE, and we actively work to eliminate the barriers that prevent participation. Our program is designed for kids in grades K-8.

What We Do

Our six week program will take place on the following Sundays from 1-2pm at the Spotswood Elementary School Track (March 2nd, March 9th, March 23rd, April 6th, April 13th, April 20th). Our program is FREE for kids in grades K-8. Participants will work with JMU students and collegiate athletes during each of our 1 hour sessions, focusing on skills such as teamwork and building confidence. Volunteers will be expected to arrive no later than 12:30pm and stay through the remainder of the session (2pm).

Our sessions will alternate between practice days and race days, allowing for 3 practice sessions and 3 race sessions over the course of the spring season. Our goal is to give kids the opportunity to have fun while getting exposure to sports at no cost!!
