One of the services SVMEP provide families, that is also one of the most valued by families in the program, is tutoring. Our in-home tutoring program is fairly large, we have about 30-40 volunteer tutors each semester who we place with migrant students in our program. The placements take place in the home and are held twice a week, for the length of an hour. Given that we have so many tutoring placements, a crucial part of the tutoring program is having the support of our Tutor-Liaison Assistant.
A Tutor-liaison Assistant's main responsibilities are to check-in with tutors weekly and ensure that they are attending their placements by checking their weekly tutor updates they submit via Canvas. In addition to this, below are some additional tasks for this role:
- Updating tutor attendance records
- Supporting staff in gathering teacher contact for migrant students
- Creating Migrant Literacy Net (MLN) accounts for migrant students
- Updating and distributing tutor surveys at the end of the semester
