Move-In Weekend is one of JMU’s most important campus-wide experiences, welcoming incoming students and their families as they begin their journey as Dukes. More than assisting with unloading vehicles and transporting belongings, Move-In creates the first impression of the JMU community and culture.
Volunteers play a vital role in helping students feel welcomed, supported, and connected from the moment they arrive on campus. Through service, school pride, and meaningful interaction, student organizations, faculty, staff, and campus partners help model the spirit of belonging and community that defines the JMU experience.
We invite your student or community organization to participate by selecting a move-in location and volunteer shift during Move-In Weekend. Available shift times are 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Organizations are welcome to sign up for more than one shift if capacity allows. Volunteers are expected to serve for the full duration of their selected shift. Organizations with larger memberships are encouraged to divide volunteers across multiple locations to maximize support throughout campus.
