Care-A-Thon is the RMH Foundation’s annual phone-a-thon event where we contact our donors and ask them to renew their support for our local hospice program. The success of this effort depends largely upon whether we have sufficient volunteer support to contact our donors. 
Would you please consider joining us this year? It will only require an hour or two of your time, and your efforts will help elevate the care we provide for patients facing a terminal illness and their families. Specifically, funds raised during Care-A-Thon enables Sentara RMH Hospice to provide grief support groups to the bereaved, host memorial events, and provide training for its staff.
Below are a few things to know about the Care-A-Thon as you consider volunteering with us this year:
- The “event” will take place Monday, September 29 – Friday, October 3, 2024.
- The Foundation will hold a brief volunteer training via Zoom on Monday, September 29 at 3:30pm. If you are unable to attend live, we will send the recorded version to your email immediately afterward.
- At the beginning of the week, volunteers will be provided with a list of 25-30 donors to call. This typically takes an hour or two to complete.
- This year, we are offering a hybrid volunteer format. You can elect to conduct calls with other volunteers at the hospital (Sentara RMH Medical Center, 2010 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg) on Tuesday, September 30 between 5 – 8pm (dinner provided) and/or complete your calls virtually at a time and place most convenient for you.
- You will have until Noon on Friday, October 3 to complete your phone calls.
- Volunteers have the option of using a free mobile app to conduct their calls, thereby not sharing their personal phone number for security and callback purposes.
- One of the nice things about this event is that we send a letter to donors in advance, so they are already expecting our calls. Even better, everyone we call has made a gift to the hospital in the last few years, so we know they are supportive of our work.
